Lady Celadon: Design Sketches by frateroshi Lady Celadon: Design Sketches by frateroshi
about a month ago i posted a character design named "cybernetic gauntlet girl." well, since then, i've been putting a lot of thought into the character and i've compiled a few of the better sketches from the character design process for you here. i don't expect many of you to give a crap about her backstory or whatnot, this is mostly just to give you a glimpse into my design process and see how i go about fleshing out a character. they are roughly in chronological order from top to bottom.

and in case anybody cares, here's a quick bio about the character:

celadon comes from a colony of low humans who specialize in a very invasive form of cybernetics that can virtually half the aging process of the body by permanently afixing a sort of life-support system that replaces the function of most internal organs. the disadvantage is that since all the body's fluids are replaced with various chemicals, the body's natural regeneration is severly limited, causing even minor injuries to nessesitate surgery or cybernetic replacement. celadon suffered the loss of both legs and one arm while she was fairly young; because of a lack of donors with actual blood, she was forced to undergo the cyberizing process in lieu of a transfusion. for balance reasons, her remaining arm was amputated as well. she now sports sybernetic limbs, the arms of which can be replaced by her giant extendo-gauntles. celadon's spine and ribcage are reinforced with metal extoskeletal versions to allow her to support the wieght of the gauntlet arms. both her eyes function, but the cyberizing process causes them to cataract over time, so she has a fixure over her right eye where she can screw on her scope visor for improved vision. the left side of her face is usually concealed by her hair because it bears a chemical burn that won't heal. while she's a bit creepy compared to most humans, she's regarded as the most beautiful in her colony because she stopped aging so young. (around 27, most don't get cyberized until old age when organs fail)

anyway, that's lady celadon! she's set to become a prominent figure in my little stories, so you'll probably see more art of her down the road. thanks for reading all this crap!

So Cool! Excellent concept as well. Immortality it seems has it advantages and disadvantages. Now if you excuse me I'm going to stare at this drawing some more. :D

wow, i'm surprised you actually read my character description! and yeah, she's by far the best-looking of the imortal zombie cyborgs; the rest of 'em are not too pleasant. thanks for reading and thanks for the comments!

I think that brainstorm thing to decide how the design and details are going to work is one of the most fun parts of the work :)

heh, i hear that; that's probably why i have an Excel spreadsheet list of over 300 origional characters. it's more fun to design them than to do anything with 'em!

thanks! yeah, cyborg characters need a lot of schematic drawings because of all the different metal bits. it's fun stuff to do, though; glad you like it!
